2023 June Newsletter
NCI has started! June 20th marked the first day of our NCI orientation, where our 2023 cohort from all over California met for the very first time. Interns from SJ & SF flew in that morning and checked into the Miyako Hotel right in Little Tokyo. For the next two days, they learned and discovered and ate and walked all around Little Tokyo. We're super excited for all of our interns to do great things at their respective sites this summer!☀️😎

We wish a productive rest of the year to the 2023 Board Fellowship Cohort. After six hybrid learning sessions, all nine Fellows are now actively serving on Boards in the Little Tokyo Community and beyond through 2023. Thanks to local favorite, Far Bar, for a space to connect, unwind, and bond.

We are almost at the end of our Leadership In Action program 2023! With week after week of inspiring workshops and progress on their civil liberties projects, we are so proud of our young cohort's growth throughout this whole experience. A huge thank you to all of our workshop facilitators, with some help coming from community organizations, such as Asian Mental Health Project, Cold Tofu, and Okaeri! Our most recent session (pictured above) featured a walking tour of Chinatown with Katie Wang (from Chinatown Community for Equitable Development), where they covered topics like tenants' rights, affordable housing, and gentrification.
We are so excited for our Leadership in Action cohort to finally present their civil liberties projects! Reminder that the Culmination Ceremony will take place on April 1st from 1-4PM in the Japanese American National Museum Aratani Central Hall! Friends and Family may attend.
