Hinamatsuri Paper Doll Origami
March 3rd marks Hinamatsuri, also known as “Doll’s Festival” or “Girls’ Day”. This Japanese holiday is observed to celebrate the growth of young daughters and pray for their continued health and happiness. Japanese households with young daughters typically decorate their homes with ornamental dolls (hina dolls) displayed on red-cloth covered platforms. The dolls are said to be representing the emperor, empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period.
