Racial Justice Documentary: Through the Eyes of a Japanese-American
We are a group of high school students who are a part of Kizuna's Leadership in Action Program. The civil liberty that we decided to base our project on is racial justice. We interviewed a few Japanese-American individuals who have either experienced the incarceration camps themselves or know people who have. Our goal with this project is to share their stories with the public so that we can recognize the racial injustice in Japanese-American history.

Human Rights Children's Book: A Story of Connection
Shikata ga nai. It can't be helped.
In 1940’s America, Kenji, a young Japanese American, is thrown behind the barbed wire gates of the internment camps. Under executive order 9066, his family, friends, and many others are held captive across the country. Yet, despite the raging war, Kenji’s artistic spirit does not falter under the hands of the government.
“I want the world to know. Know the truth about what really happened in the camps. I don’t care what kind of punishment I’ll get for this.”

“I thought that this program was amazing; I feel that this program not only focuses on civil justice, but also self-improvement because I have learned a lot about myself, which helps me to understand my actions, utilize my strengths, and strengthen my weaknesses to the best of my ability.”
Sophie, 2023 Leadership in Action Participant
“I believe that anybody who's interested in making a change in their community can benefit from Kizuna's program. In the program, it helps give a starting point as to what you can do, it opens your perspective and shows that even though you may be a high schooler, you can still make a difference. Anybody who is interested in becoming a leader, making a difference and having their voice heard could benefit.”
