For Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re uplifting @okaeri_la Season One of Okaeri Voices. #OkaeriVoices is an oral history project featuring LGBTQ+ and allied Japanese Americans over 60 who share their journeys of heartbreak, self-discovery, and triumph, inspiring us to believe in an inclusive future for our Nikkei LGBTQ+ community. Season One features George Takei, Mia Yamamoto, Bill Tashima, Harold & Ellen Kameya, Dean Goishi, Desiree Thompson, and Gary Hayashi. JACCC invites you to join us for JAnime™, a celebration of Japanese and Japanese American culture through the lens of anime. This event immerses all in the history of Japanese and Japanese American anime culture through art, food, history and performances set against the backdrop of the Japanese season of tanabata.
The Tuna Canyon Detention Station Coalition announced its Third Annual Marc Stirdivant Scholarship for Justice with new categories and fresh topics. For the first time, the Coalition will offer an additional $500 scholarship for a 1-3 minute video that provides convincing reasons to preserve and support the Tuna Canyon Detention Station as a place to remember history.
